Fun-filled day in Bismarck-Mandan

Visit North Dakota’s State Capitol where you will find an unique blend of the State’s past, present and future. The Capitol, known as the “Skyscraper on the Prairie,” stands proudly in the heart of Bismarck. This is an hour-long tour.

North Dakota Heritage Center

Whether your interest is the dinosaur age or the digital age, visitors can travel through the past at the State Museum. Study dinosaurs, sit in a 2,500 year old dwelling, smell bison or crack a Model T engine - the galleries will engage all visitors with timely and fascinating history. You can plan to spend a couple of hours traveling through this history. Plan to spend at least 2 hours visiting the museum.

Former Governors' Mansion

This state historical site served as the residence for 20 governors from 1893 to 1960. Also featured is a restored “horse-and-buggy-era” carriage house with exhibits. This visit will take you close to an hour.

Fort Lincoln Trolley

Enjoy a ride aboard the Fort Lincoln Trolley, an electric streetcar that has been restored, that ran in Bismarck during the 1920’s. Departures are from Mandan’s Third Street Station.

Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park

Fort Lincoln State Park
This is where history comes to life. Take a trip to 1875 and the home of General George and Libbie Custer on Cavalry Square, where staff will entertain guests with stories of Libbie, the General, and the time they spent in Dakota Territory. The hills at Fort Abraham Lincoln provide a great view of the Missouri River Valley with the blockhouses standing guard over both fort and an ancient Mandan Village. On-A-Slant Village, dating back to the 1500's, features six rebuilt earth lodges with exhibits and guided tours. The park’s Visitor Center houses the nation’s best display of Mandan artifacts and history along with items of interest on Lewis & Clark and General Custer. Plan to spend about 3 to 4 hours on your visit.

Cruise the Missouri River

Cruise the fabulous Missouri River aboard the Lewis and Clark Riverboat. Excursion cruises, dinner cruises, sunset cruises, or pizza cruises are all available for your enjoyment. These cruises are 1-1½ hours.
